“You can’t please everyone, and you can’t make everyone like you.”- Katie Couric.

Why do some persons view another person's decisions negatively? Some person will judge one’s decisions based on their expectations, not the limited choices one has at hand. Some persons may perceive one as weak and easily influenced. They may even go as far as to say that one is settling for less. These are their perceptions, shaped by their worldview. But what they fail to grasp, or perhaps choose to ignore, are the circumstances that led to one’s decision.

What type of person would judge another person's decisions? Persons from different backgrounds may not be able to imagine themselves in one’s shoes. Persons from the same background but with varying support systems may be unable to imagine themselves in one’s shoes. Other times, they may refuse to imagine themselves in one’s shoes because it benefits them to question one’s decision (weak, easy to manipulate, coward), as it can be used to question one's character.

Why do some persons refuse to consider another person's perspective in decision-making? Understand that no person is alike regardless of one’s experience and background. However, this idea may be challenging for those who are set on not understanding why a person would make such decisions. It could be that when a person dislikes or does not want one, they may refuse to understand one's perspective for making such decisions.

So, how does one manage to unquestioning one’s decision when others try to questioning it? Accept one's decisions as situational decisions. One must make decisions based on one's needs and let others think whatever they want. There's no need to waste time trying to change others' perceptions of one. This will free one from the burden of seeking validation from others.
